IndiView: Weekly Market Update 12/22/25

Below is a summarized transcript of the IndiView: Weekly Market Update Video for 12/22/25. The video is posted at the bottom.

You Can’t Blame AI for Everything

There’s been a growing tendency to attribute a wide range of economic and employment challenges to artificial intelligence, particularly around youth employment. While AI will undoubtedly be disruptive, it’s unlikely to be the primary driver of current weakness in teen and early-career hiring.

Most jobs typically filled by younger workers remain concentrated in service-oriented sectors like retail, hospitality, and food service — areas not yet meaningfully displaced by AI. Instead, softer hiring at the lower end of the labor market appears more consistent with a K-shaped economy, where higher-income cohorts continue spending while middle- and lower-income groups feel the ongoing pressure of inflation and elevated prices.

Government Data: Noise vs. Signal

Recent inflation data came in slightly better than expected, but confidence in near-term government economic releases should be tempered. Following the largest government shutdown in history, data collection and reporting processes are still normalizing.

Economic data rarely provides clear answers from a single report, and that’s especially true right now. While the data is still worth monitoring, it may offer more noise than signal in the short term.

General Electric’s Remarkable Turnaround

One of the more striking corporate comeback stories in recent years is General Electric. After suffering an approximately 80% decline from peak to trough between 2016 and 2020, GE was widely viewed as a broken conglomerate.

The company ultimately split into three distinct businesses: aerospace (GE), power and energy infrastructure (GE Vernova), and healthcare (GE Health Care). Since the final phase of the breakup in mid-2024, performance has significantly rebounded. GE Vernova has surged more than 300%, GE Aerospace is up nearly 100%, while GE HealthCare has lagged but remains positive.

While this is historical looking and not an investment recommendation, it serves as a reminder that large, established companies can undergo dramatic transformations — and that breaking complex businesses into focused entities can unlock significant value.

When the Algorithm Gets One Right

The internet occasionally delivers something genuinely entertaining. One recent standout is Subway Takes — a short-form interview format where random passengers or celebrities (sometimes both) debate quick, opinionated topics. The appeal lies in its simplicity and the host’s ability to keep conversations engaging and fun.

Sometimes, the algorithm actually does its job.

That’s it for this week’s update. Thanks for watching and reading, and we’ll be back next week with another look at what’s driving markets.
