IndiView: Weekly Market Update 2/2/26

Below is a summarized transcript of the IndiView: Weekly Market Update for 2/2/26. The video is posted at the bottom of this page.

1. Fed Chair Nomination: What Changes—and What Doesn’t (Yet)

Kevin Warsh has emerged as the nominee for Federal Reserve Chair, ending what felt like a prolonged and politicized selection process. While confirmation could still be delayed due to ongoing scrutiny around the Fed’s renovation budget, the nomination itself does not immediately change the investment landscape. Our base case remains that the Fed stays relatively stable in the first half of the year unless economic conditions shift meaningfully. The second half, however, could become more volatile as political pressure builds and questions around Fed independence and rate policy re-enter the conversation. For now, economic data—not personnel changes—remains the primary guide for investment decisions.

2. AI Trade: Rotation Instead of a Broad Unwind

Since late last year, leadership within the AI trade has begun to fragment. While the largest AI-centric companies still dominate longer-term performance, the broader S&P 500 has started to outperform them on a relative basis. At the same time, certain parts of AI infrastructure—such as memory and hardware—continue to perform exceptionally well, while others have lagged. This shift reflects increasing selectivity rather than a collapse of the AI theme. As the cycle matures, winners and losers will continue to change, creating both risk and opportunity for investors willing to stay disciplined.

3. Earnings Season: A Crucial Two-Week Stretch

This week marks the heaviest concentration of S&P 500 earnings reports, following an already busy week prior. So far, aggregate earnings, margins, and revenue growth have held up better than expected, and notably, 2026 growth estimates have not yet been revised meaningfully lower. That resilience is an encouraging backdrop for markets.

4. Cool People, Good Work: Fridley School District

This week’s personal note highlights the Fridley School District in Minnesota. Serving a working-class, high-immigrant community, the district has continued to focus on educating students under challenging (and frankly unprecedented) conditions. The educators and staff working through these pressures deserve recognition for their professionalism, resilience, and commitment to their community.
